Mother’s Day Meals

Another life event to celebrate with food: Mothers’ Day. Whether you prepare it yourself or leave it to the professionals, here are some ideas for treating the mom you have or the mom that you are through nutritious and nurturing food:

Breakfast
The classic, pancakes. Try the vegan butternut squash pancakes from Vegan Desserts by Hannah Kaminski. Top with real maple syrup.

Brunch
A veritable smorgasbord of carbs, protein and fat. Opt for a light brunch with lots of colourful vegetables drizzled with a little monounsaturated fat, a few fruits, some whole grain offerings and a little bit of protein to complete the triad of macro nutrients.

High Tea
Finger sandwiches, mini cakes and a spot of tea served on good china can make anyone feel like a queen. Make sure the sandwich bread is whole grain, the cakes use unrefined and fair-trade sugar and the tea a healthy green or unadulterated black tea.
